Promote the concept of social entrepreneurship in the region through
electing and supporting social entrepreneurs-involves searching and
selecting social entrepreneurs, giving them a monthly stipend for three
years, linking them up with other social entrepreneurs in Egypt and
around the world, linking them up to donors and decision-makers, and
helping them with needed skills including trainings on proposal-writing
and business-plans

Promote the concept of corporate social responsibility among businesses

Close the gap between the social and business sectors by exchanging
expertise between the two sectors and changing the concept of charity
for development

Professionalize the social sector and strengthen its citizen base |

Monthly stipend for three years, roughly US$18,000 per year which is
US$54,000 for the three-year period |

Stipends are given to the person who founded the NGO. The idea that the
person is working on must be new in Egypt

The person must be a "social entrepreneur," and meet Ashoka's criteria
of having a new idea that has a potentially large national impact, be
creative, entrepreneurial, and have ethical fiber

The person must undergo many interviews by Ashoka staff in Egypt and
abroad and by a local panel of leading social and business entrepreneurs
-
To date Ashoka have funded 4 youth development related social
entrepreneurs: YAPD, Nahdet El Mahrousa, Baby Academy, Wadi
Environmental Science Centre (WESC) |
